Kentucky Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman will be the featured speaker at the Northern Kentucky University Teacher Candidate Recognition Ceremony and inaugural pinning on May 1.

Coleman will talk about celebrating teachers, why she loved being a teacher, her favorite teacher and why she feels they are important. 

The Teacher Candidate Recognition Ceremony honors the 72 graduating seniors in the College of Education’s Teacher Preparation and Educational Studies department. Artwork from students at White’s Tower Elementary School will also be featured, in honor of KYAEA Art Teacher of the Year Shannon Chrisco, who is also speaking.

Before entering politics, Coleman served the public as an educator, most recently serving as an assistant principal at Nelson County High School. She is also a basketball coach, public education advocate and founded the non-profit Lead Kentucky, which prepares and encourages women to step into leadership roles.
