Two principals are set to retire in the Campbell County School District for the 2023-2024 school year, and their replacements have been hired.

Susan Rath, who has been principal of Reiley Elementary school since 2012, and Connie Ryle, principal at Cline Elementary, are preparing to pass the baton to new hires.

“Cline and Reiley elementary are top-performing schools in the state, and our excellent new leaders will continue to lead with the highest expectations and results for our students,” Campbell County Schools Superintendent Shelli Wilson said.

Reiley Elementary School will welcome Kevin Mayleben as principal starting in the 2023-2024 school year. He is joining the school from Crossroads Elementary, where he currently serves as assistant principal.

Mayleben began his teaching career in 2009 as a special education teacher at River Ridge Elementary School in Kenton County. He has also served as the head swim coach for Scott High School. Before coming to Crossroads in 2016, Mayleben served as the associate principal for Turkey Foot Middle School from 2014-2016.

Karrie Irons-Bird will take over as principal at Cline Elementary. She is joining the district from Covington Independent Public Schools, where she served as the Interim Assistant Principal and Curriculum and Instruction Coach at Ninth District Elementary.

Irons-Bird began her teaching career in 1991 as a 3rd and 4th-grade teacher at Harvey Public Schools in Harvey, IL. She also taught for Midwest City-Del City Public Schools in Midwest City, OK, before returning to Kentucky in 2001 to teach in the Kenton County School District and Ludlow Independent Schools.

The Campbell County Board of Education approved a Cline Transition Principal Contract from July 1 through Aug. 1 for Ryle at their meeting Monday night so that she could help with the changeover.

“Both Susan Rath and Connie Ryle have served our district for many years as outstanding principals and individuals,” Wilson said. “They will help to smoothly transition our new leaders and support the tradition of excellence in these schools.”
