A Covington man was arrested Thursday after police say he committed two burglaries, intentionally set a fire during one of the burglaries, and then tried to set another fire by throwing improvised incendiary devices into Zapata Cantina on Madison Avenue.
David Juarez, 37, was charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of arson in connection to the incidents, which began Sunday, when police were called to investigate a robbery on West 8th Street in Covington.
The next day, according to a release from Covington Police, officers were called back to the same address to assist the Covington Fire Department with a structure fire. The fire was determined to be intentionally set, police said.
Then on Thursday, officers were called to Zapata Cantina at 810 Madison Ave. for a report of a broken window, the release said. The two improvised incendiary devices thrown through the window had failed to catch fire.
“The Criminal Investigation Bureau responded and they determined Juarez was responsible for all three incidents,” the release said. “Juarez was located hiding in his car inside his home on West 9th Street in Covington where he was taken into custody.”
