Tim Curl, a Newport native and graduate of Newport High School with career experience in education, has been selected to fill an unexpired term on the Newport Board of Education.

Curl fills the board vacancy created by the departure of former board member Julie Smith-Morrow, who was elected to the Newport City Commission in November. Under state law, the sitting board members select a replacement when a school board vacancy occurs.

Curl previously ran for the board of education last year but was not elected, and said he would step down from his seat on the Newport Board of Adjustments now that he has been selected for the board of education.

Curl spent more than 40 years in nursing, nursing education, critical care nursing and home health nursing. He was the former Dean of Nursing for Beckfield College and FORTIS Colleges and Institutes.
