Boone County is purchasing 76 acres of land from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

The deal still needs to be approved by both the Boone County Fiscal Court and the Federal Aviation Administration. The land is located in unincorporated Boone County, and much of it undeveloped rural land that was formerly used for agriculture. Some of the acreage in the deal is currently being used as park space. The sale price of the land is listed as approximately $300,000.

The Cincinnati Business Courier reported that according to CVG documents, the area lacks the proper infrastructure to be developed for commercial or industrial purposes.

The 76-acre deal is related to another large land sale between Boone County and CVG. In July, the Boone County Fiscal Court voted to finalize the purchase of 296 acres of unused land from CVG. The property sold in July is located between Bullittsville Road and Idlewild Drive, east of CVG. Prior reports show the Kenton County Airport Board signed off on the over $1.1 million transaction. The FAA determines the price of the land and requires that it must be sold at market value.

Part of the acreage included England Idlewild Park, one of the largest parks in Boone County. The park is popular with disc golfers, runners and cyclists due to its expansive surface area. Earlier in the year, Idlewild Park hosted the LWS Open, which is a significant tournament on the Pro Disc Golf Tour. The park also features other amenities such as baseball/softball fields and basketball court.

Boone County plans to continue to use the acreage for the disc golf course, and to also expand its dog park.
