On Nov. 6, Dayton will become the 33rd city in the state and the first Campbell County city to implement a city-wide smoke-free ordinance.
The Dayton City Council voted in a 3-2 vote to approve the smoke-free ordinance at their Sept. 6 meeting.
Dayton business owners will soon receive packets of information from the city and Northern Kentucky Health Department outlining how they should implement the new law.
“We were asked to enforce the new ordinance in establishments that we inspect, and the Board of Health agreed,” Northern Kentucky Interim District Director of Health Steve Divine said. “We congratulate the Dayton City Council in taking this important step to improve the health of the community.”
Smoking will be prohibited indoors in any Dayton building or place of employment where the public is invited or permitted, such as offices, hotels, factories, churches, bars, restaurants, bingo halls, bowling alleys, and stores.
“We are very pleased that city council responded to the need of our community to take positive steps for health,” CEO and President OneNKY Alliance Karen Finan said. “We applaud and thank the Dayton City Council for their vote to protect the health of all Dayton employees by making workplaces smoke-free.”
