The Campbell County Fiscal Court has announced plans for the 2022 session of its Citizens’ Academy program, which is designed to improve civic education and increase citizen engagement in county government.
Citizens’ Academy is a nine-week educational program. The county will select 25 participants to meet each Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 12 through Nov. 14.
Local elected officials, community partners, and county staff will give presentations on a wide variety of subjects. The goal of the program is for participants to walk away with first-hand knowledge of their county government, how county tax dollars are put to work to fund basic services, and how the county works with various partners.
One participant from the 2021 program said what they liked most about it was the feeling that county officials are fiscally responsible, and officials put citizens’ needs first, a news release said.
“Our goal in delivering this program is to share information about the county’s structure and services with more people,” Judge/Executive Steve Pendery said. “If we are successful, my hope is that more citizens will become interested and more engaged in the important public work that we do.”
Campbell County Fiscal Court encourages interested residents and business owners to apply. Submit an application by August 26, to be considered.
