A rendering of a potential office building development in Covington (via social media posts)

Last Friday, Director of External Affairs for Kenton County John Stanton made a Facebook post saying CBRE, a real estate company, announced a partnership with Urban Sites- a property management company, to bring a Class A office space to the Roebling Point Neighborhood in Covington.

The proposed 50,000 square feet of office space is said to be planned for Greenup Street across from Molly Malone’s pub and restaurant, which is currently used as additional parking for the neighboring businesses.

In the post, Stanton congratulated both CBRE and Urban Sites teams, though county and city officials have been hesitant to comment on the project. Travis Likes, First Vice President at CBRE also announced the partnership project on Friday, March 25 via Linkedin, though officials at CBRE also chose not to comment on the project.

“You got me caught off guard on that one,” Managing Director at CBRE Kevin Schutte said when asked about the project. “I don’t know anything about that. Even if I did, I couldn’t comment on it. We’ve got a CBRE policy. We’re not allowed to comment on ongoing projects.”

Stanton said the county doesn’t typically comment on potential economic development projects. He said Travis Likes was the original source of the announcement.

Likes made a post on Linkedin that said, “More Class A Office space coming to Covington. We are pleased to partner with Daniel Lipson and our friends at Urban Sites on this new opportunity.”

LINK nky reached out to Urban Sites but no one was available for comment.

The proposed site could potentially take away vital parking for businesses. Molly Malone’s website currently lists the public lot across the street as a parking option as their parking lot has limited space.

The staff at Molly Malones were also hesitant to comment on the news.

“We haven’t really even thought about it,” Manager at Molly Malones Audrey said. “We found out in our meeting 10 minutes ago. We really don’t have a statement.”

Economic Development Director for Covington Tom West said the proposed area is prime for development but didn’t comment further.

“The Roebling Point area is just one of the hotspots in Covington right now, and we’re not surprised to see that our public investments in the area are paying off with more proposed private investments,” West said. “We look forward to working with the site owner and the developers on this project.”
