Steve Hayden is one of seven candidates running for a spot on the new Covington City Council. The council will have six seats.

Hayden has a background in computer science. He was appointed to sit on the Covington Board of Commissioners in 2023 after former Commissioner Nolan Nicaise resigned before the end of his term. He has also served on various public boards and is active in neighborhood life.

“Having already served on the city commission, I know how decisions at city hall impact residents and the importance of staying within budget,” Hayden said. “That experience gives me the perspective and preparedness needed to serve effectively from day one.”

He added that he wanted to “contribute to a smooth transition” away from the city’s current government form.

Long term, Hayden said, “public safety will always be first. Our police and firefighters must have the equipment and training they need to do the great job that they do,” although he admitted that “ongoing, daily issues often set the priorities in the short term. Analyzing those issues and problems will prioritize the planning process and bring the solutions in the short term.”

Additionally, he pointed to affordable housing and increasing revenue for the city as other important goals if elected.

Finally, Hayden said, “recurring sidewalk maintenance and snow removal issues require more policy attention.”
