Ryan Grosser

Candidate spotlight

Candidate for: Campbell County Jailer

Party: Republican

Ryan Grosser is a lifelong Campbell County resident. He is a graduate of Saint Thomas School, Newport Central High School and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Grosser will face Brian Jennings in the May primary.

Grosser is married to Katie, his high school sweetheart, and the couple and their two daughters live in a home they built on the family farm in Alexandria. Prior to joining the Campbell County Detention Center, Grosser worked with his cousins to open and run a family-owned bakery.

Grosser joined the Campbell County Detention Center in 2018. He has been steadily promoted and currently holds the rank of major, having served as the special response team command leader for nearly five years.

He is endorsed by current Campbell County Jailer Jim Daley, who is retiring in 2026.

Grosser holds more than 20 law enforcement-related licenses and certifications from leadership and emergency response to use of force, information systems and mental health first aid.

The biggest issue in this campaign, Grosser said, is experience. He said the detention center is a highly complex operation with an annual operating budget of $8 million, a staff of nearly 100 and an inmate population that reaches 500 at times. He said the county jailer must have a variety of experience and training to serve as a leader who can balance security, fairness, fiscal responsibility and community trust.

“Being the county jailer carries immense responsibility,” Grosser said. “I have spent my entire career gaining the experience and training it takes to serve as an effective jailer. I’m excited for the journey ahead, and thankful to have such a strong foundation behind me.”
