After 12 years as Union’s mayor, Larry Solomon is stepping away from the city’s top elected office but not from city government.

Solomon, who was first elected mayor in 2014, is running for a seat on the Union City Commission. He said he believes in term limits and decided three terms were enough as mayor, but wants to remain involved as the city transitions to new leadership.

“In discussions with my family and city colleagues, I decided to run for Commissioner as my ‘last dance’ in City of Union politics,” Solomon told LINK nky. “As Commissioner, I can provide some continuity, allowing the new Mayor to run his own administration.

Solomon holds master’s degrees in public administration and business administration from Ohio State University. His career included work for the Ohio Youth Commission and marketing research positions with Procter & Gamble and Valvoline. He moved to Union in 2006 and served as president of his homeowners association before entering elected office.

Solomon identified managing Union’s continued growth as the central issue facing the city. He pointed to the city’s updated town plan, particularly its residential density limits, as a way to guide development and moderate the pace of growth.

As mayor, Solomon has also been involved in several major development and infrastructure projects, including Union Town Square and the city’s new municipal building.
