April McKinney is one of 15 candidates running for the Erlanger City Council. The council has nine seats.

She was born and raised in the city and said, “As I have gotten older, I have realized the importance of local government and am now at a point in my life that I can devote the appropriate amount of time to serving the citizens of Erlanger.”

McKinney has a background in mental and substance abuse treatment. She’s a former member of Northern Kentucky CAREs, a subsection of the NKY Office of Drug Control Policy that aims to coordinate care among service providers across the region. Her parents, Renee and Don Skidmore, are also running for spots on the council.

Regaining the “trust of Erlanger citizens” was her primary motivation for running, McKinney said.

“Recently, there have been a lot of issues that have been of great importance to our citizens, and they have not always been addressed the way I feel they should have been,” McKinney said, adding that he hoped to “restore ‘friendship’ to the ‘friendship city,’” which is Erlanger’s motto.

She promised to keep the door open for Erlanger citizens if elected.

“They can always reach out to me with any questions or concerns at any time,” McKinney said.
