Since LINK nky launched in 2021, we knew from the beginning politics and elections would be a huge focus for us.
In fact, LINK’s founders hired a political reporter before they even hired me as the managing editor to start building the rest of the team. Politics and the electoral process are part of our DNA, and it’s one of our proudest accomplishments: Providing comprehensive election coverage to all of NKY in a way no has since the Kentucky Post closed in 2007.
Our thinking was simple: Provide everything people need to make decisions, and none of the noise that often accompanies political coverage these days.
And while our coverage has grown significantly since our first election super issue in 2022, voter turnout hasn’t always kept up.
In 2024, primary election turnout averaged 11% in Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties. In 2023, primary voter turnout was just under 13% in NKY, with similar numbers in 2022.
NKY hasn’t seen anything close to a combined 20% primary voter turnout since the 2020 election.
This year, Northern Kentucky saw a primary turnout of 24%.
And while there are a lot of reasons cited locally, including high interest in national and local races, we’d like to think LINK nky had at least something to do with empowering voters enough to actually go to the polls.
We send Super Issues to all 173,000 households in NKY every quarter. If it is an election year, two of those issues are dedicated to elections: One previews the primary and the other previews the general. In those issues, you’ll find stories on the biggest races, profiles of all candidates in a contested race (or at least as many of them as we can fit – the rest go online) and all the information you need before you go vote, including deadlines and ID requirements.
We often see people at the polls with our super issues on Election Day.
This year, we received a huge amount of feedback from readers and candidates alike.
“Every community needs local, professional journalism,” one reader commented on an election article we posted on Facebook. “LINK nky does that here.”
Another comment on that post reads, “Thank you for all you do to keep our community informed!”
We had a local university professor reach out asking for Super Issue copies for all of his students after receiving his copy in the mail.
We received so many emails. Emails like this:
“I thought it was an excellent issue and I appreciate all the work that was done to provide information on the candidates who are running for election or re election,” the reader wrote. “Thank you to all who worked so hard. It is a lot of work and a lot of time and a lot of effort gone into that. Thank you so very much.”
While I’m engaging in a little bit of shameless self promotion, I’ll just come out with it: If you see value in this coverage and are able to contribute financially, every dollar will ensure this coverage is here to stay for the long term.
Click here to make a tax-deductible donation that goes straight to funding local public-interest journalism (such as election coverage) in NKY. This allows us to keep everything — from our website to those Super Issues to topic specific newsletters and more — completely free for everyone. No paywall. No subscription required.
We also know financial gifts aren’t possible for many. If that’s the case for you, there are SO many ways you can support us:
- Go to linknky.com – we know you’re here already, but click around a bit. If you’re new to our sports coverage, you’re going to love what sports editor Evan Dennison serves up daily. Share stories you like far and wide!
- Sign up for one of our newsletters – the Daily LINK gives you an idea of what’s happening in NKY first thing every week day morning, but we also have topic based newsletters like the Sports LINK and the Business LINK.
- Subscribe to our weekly print edition – it’s just $50 per year, and you’ll receive the latest news in your mailbox (your actual, physical one!) every Friday. It also makes a great Father’s Day gift, if you’re still figuring out what to get the dad who has everything.
- Follow us on social media, and share the stories you like. Find us on Facebook here and on Instagram here. We’re also on every other platform that exists (or at least most of them): TikTok, Twitter, BlueSky, Threads, YouTube, LinkedIn and even Reddit.

Thank you, Northern Kentucky, for stepping up and making your voices heard. And thank you for ensuring LINK nky can continue to provide everything you need to keep making the decisions that are best for you and your family.
