Tb he Covington Board of Commissioners bid “adieu” to its longest-serving member, Michelle Williams on Tue. Dec. 20 with a formal resolution.
Williams, first elected in 2012 and then re-elected three times between 2016 and 2020, decided against running again this past election.
Fellow commissioners told stories about Williams’ time on the Board and expressed gratitude for Williams’ service and advocacy of Covington’s vulnerable or historically disenfranchised residents.
Williams lobbied colleagues to join in adopting protections including The Crown Act, which set Covington up as a leader for being the first city in Kentucky to ban discrimination related to hair texture and hairstyles commonly associated with a particular race or national origin.
With Williams’s absence on the Board, the seat will be filled by newcomer Nolan Nicaise. Nicaise joins Mayor Joe Meyer and Commissioners Ron Washington, Tim Downing, and Shannon Smith. The Commission’s next meets at 6 p.m. on Jan. 3 at City Hall.
