State Representative-elect Stephanie Dietz delivered the Oath of Office to all the newly elected officials of the City of Fort Wright during a special council meeting Wednesday at the Fort Wright Municipal Complex.

Incumbents Margie Witt, Dave Abeln, Justin (Jay) Webber, Scott Wall, Bernie Wessels, along with Mayor Dave Hatter, welcomed Jason Collins to city council as outgoing member Adam Feinauer thanked fellow council members for serving along side him over 20 years.

“It’s not a one-man band, and I thank you for all that you’ve done for the city,” Feinauer said.

Additionally, city council presented the motion to ban the use of TikTok on city-owned computer networks and devices, citing FBI and NSA warnings against the applications hiding Chinese spyware.

One person asked Hatter if, say a TikTok video was forwarded to a user of city-owned devices or while using the network, could that user open it or would that cause problems?

“It’d be like Mission Impossible,” Hatter said. “The machine would immediately burst and the battery would just burn right through you. No, I’m kidding. Through our MSP software, it will block it at the baseline. The app is the real issue.”

The motion was approved by unanimous vote.

The regularly scheduled caucus meeting is canceled due to the holidays, with meetings to resume after the new year.
