The WAVE Foundation is seeking volunteers to help clean the Ohio River bank in Newport for its annual River Sweep, scheduled for Saturday, June 11.
“While River Sweep has been happening for decades, litter continues to be a problem. This is a great opportunity to be part of the solution,” executive director of WAVE Foundation Tricia Watts said. “River Sweep is a great conservation action and a teaching tool as well.”
Participating volunteers will be served a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. under the Taylor Southgate Bridge in Newport.
Volunteers will pick up trash and debris alongside the river from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt for their participation, and Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman and WAVE Board Member Khalid Kareem will be in attendance.
All volunteers must register online and fill out a waiver prior to participating. Volunteers under 18 must have a guardian present. Register by visiting this link: https://wavefoundation.org/events/riversweep/.
WAVE Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the number of visitors to the Newport Aquarium and educate the community about aquatic life and conservation, according to its website.
