A new mural marking the state line between Kentucky and Ohio on the Purple People Bridge was unveiled this afternoon.
Titled ‘Where We Connect,’ this mural was created by local artist Matt Grote in collaboration with meetNKY, Visit Cincy and the Purple People Bridge.
“The thing that really struck me the most about my time here is how much this bridge means to the people here,” said Grote at today’s unveiling.
Each side of the mural is marked with regional elements. Kentucky’s side includes fried chicken, a horseshoe, glass of bourbon and more. The entire mural focuses on the blending of both sides of the river with odes to the region’s shared cultures, like its German heritage and love for football.
“We’re so thankful for the partnerships,” said Newport Mayor Tom Guidugli. “This is a special place on the Purple People Bridge. It’s where north meets south.”
meetNKY CEO Julie Kirkpatrick said that the Purple People Bridge’s state line marker was one of the most “Instagrammed” spots in the region, making it a prime location for the new mural.
“To bring together a visual representation of the things that connect us in this region,” said meetNKY CEO Julie Kirkpatrick at the mural’s dedication ceremony. “The great sports that we love, music, arts — all of these things that come together and make this Cincy region unique.”
