More than 1,000 trees have been taken down in Park Hills in the past three years.

The city’s tree board is on a mission to remedy that by starting an initiative for every household in Park Hills to plant “Just One Tree.”

Park Hills is offering all homeowners a free tree on Saturday, Oct. 8 in celebration of Arbor Day.

The complimentary trees are in three-gallon containers and are at least six feet tall. They are four- to five-year-old saplings, which the tree board said have a great success rate.

Homeowners must pick up their tree between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Oct. 8 at Trolley Park, located at 1101 Amsterdam Road in Park Hills.

Baeten’s Nursery will be bringing a large variety from which to choose, so homeowners should arrive early for a wider selection of trees.

Trees should be planted within a few days.
