A Covington church was highlighted as part of an announcement by organizers of BLINK, the regional light, art, and projection mapping event returning to Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky in October.
On Monday morning, organizers announced what they called the “first wave of artists” to work on the immersive light show that spans many city blocks across the Ohio River.
Mother of God Church on Sixth Street in downtown Covington was part of Monday’s announcement. Italian projection company Antaless Visual Designs will handle that Covington project.
“BLINK is not limited to the streets of the city, but rather committed to truly integrating with the city itself, which includes installations at historical and architecturally significant buildings,” the announcement said. “Among a sea of innovations, the upcoming work at The American Building in (Over-the-Rhine), Mother of God Church in Covington, and Memorial Hall (in Cincinnati) stand out.” Antaless will also produce the project at Memorial Hall.
Other highlights from Monday’s announcement include projects at the Ezzard Charles mural and Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati.
BLINK returns to Cincinnati and Covington October 13-16. In 2019, legions of attendees flocked to both sides of river to take in the immersive light show which included several Covington blocks with lights on historic buildings and interactive murals.
“Curatorially, this year is going to feel different than years past,” said BLINK Executive Director Justin Brookhart. “Development of BLINK means creating a lasting impact beyond the 4-day biennial experience that the event is known for, creating a spectacle unlike any previous year’s event, and engaging with our community to make sure we’re honoring it and enriching it.”
