On Tuesday, May 30th, Gateway Community & Technical College will honor St. Elizabeth Healthcare and Ms. Jeanne Schroer at the College’s annual Gateway to Greatness Awards Luncheon at the Drees Pavilion in Covington.
St. Elizabeth, one of the region’s largest healthcare networks, was selected for recognition of the award for their long-standing partnership with Gateway and their continued support of the college’s nursing and allied health programs. St. Elizabeth’s partnership helped increase the college’s nursing class capacity and expanded Gateway’s roster of nursing instructors just last year. In addition, the college and St. Elizabeth have also partnered closely on the paramedic training program at Gateway.
Gateway President, Dr. Fernando Figueroa, said, “St. Elizabeth’s partnership with Gateway is just one of the many examples of their dedication to the Northern Kentucky community and to its people, especially those who are looking to impact and contribute to the health and economic well-being of our region.”
Last year, Gateway began exploring and implementing strategies to adapt to the region’s high demand for registered nurses by expanding its nursing program. The college announced this expansion to its nursing program capacity with the help of St. Elizabeth last fall.

Thirty-three students received their Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) at the college’s Nurse Pinning last December. The college feels that because of this expansion, they are now in a tremendous position to develop, train, and graduate more quality healthcare professionals into the field than ever.
Gateway has a long history of providing local healthcare organizations and institutions, with talented and trained employees ready to advance in the field of nursing and allied health with the skills and knowledge needed to provide quality client care within the disciplines of healthcare. The Gateway health professions programs include phlebotomy, medical assisting, certified nursing aide program, and a number of shorter industry certifications in the healthcare field.
“There’s a strong sense of pride we have for our students who are completing or have completed Gateway’s nursing program; it truly is immeasurable. Each semester our students work meticulously for a chance to enter the workforce and make an impact in our region’s healthcare networks Said Amber Carter, Dean of Health Professions. “The cohorts move on, and new students come in but the one thing that never changes is the unwavering dedication our students have towards wanting to go out and help others. Their commitment to both their education and professional futures always inspires me. I have no doubt that any of our students who pass through the program will go on to have a profound influence in our community.”

In addition to St. Elizabeth, Ms. Jeanne Schroer, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Catalytic Fund, will also be honored at the event for her continuous support of Gateway, and her admirable commitment to bettering the region. Schroer has launched and led countless real estate development projects in the region as well as a number of community planning efforts in the city of Covington, home to Gateway’s Urban Metro Campus on Madison Avenue.
Schroer is also a long-time champion for higher education. She served on Gateway’s Foundation Board, as a trustee and then as an officer, and has a commendable track record of supporting Gateway and Northern Kentucky. Her passion is often displayed through both personal and professional projects which all move Covington forward, her thirst for amplified community involvement, and her continuous philanthropic generosity.
Individual ticket purchases are encouraged and available on the events webpage. Event sponsorship levels are also listed to provide corporations, businesses, and organizations with a variety of levels at which to sponsor and engage with the event.
