After more than a decade of serving coffee to the Covington community, Point Perk Coffee is closing its doors.

The coffee shop was well-known for employing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and is operated by The Point Arc, a local nonprofit that’s also located in Covington and helps “people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach their highest potential educationally, residentially, socially and vocationally,” according to the nonprofit’s website.

The closure of the coffee shop was made public Thursday in a social media post, where the nonprofit announced the shop will pour its final cup on Saturday, Sept. 5.

“As The Point Arc continues to grow, we are entering a new chapter. We have made the strategic decision to close Point Perk so we can refocus our resources and strengthen our employment training programs — creating even more opportunities for the individuals we serve to develop the proficiencies, confidence and real-world experience they need to succeed in life and work,” the post read. “To our incredible managers, staff, job coaches, loyal customers and the Covington community: thank you. Your support has helped transform lives and made Point Perk’s impact far greater than the coffee we served.”

Point Arc sponsors several other initiatives for people with disabilities, like the Point Laundry, a clothes-cleaning business, and The Point Apparel, a screen-printing and embroidery shop. Point Perk Coffee is the second Point Arc business to close. In 2025, they closed Zel’s Pretzels.

“While this chapter is coming to a close, our mission is stronger than ever. Thank you for believing in our mission. The best is still to come,” the post said.
