Popular Covington-based bookstore Conveyor Belt Books announced Tuesday that the store will soon be moving to the former Proud Rooster building in Clifton after four-plus years of business in Kentucky.

“We’ll be making our way to Ludlow Ave in the Clifton Gaslight District in the next few months, aiming for an October opening at the absolute latest,” store owner Brandon DiSabatino wrote on the store’s Instagram page. “If you’re familiar with the space, you know we have a LOTTTTTA work between now & then.”

Beloved by residents of the Queen City and beyond, Conveyor Belt is best known for its many curated shelves of under-$10 paperbacks and for its rare first-edition finds.

DiSabatino wrote that the Covington location would “hopefully” be open until the move is finished, and that the store is taking donations to fund the move, as the store’s relocation was being paid for by “personal funds, loans & the generosity of those looking to help out where they can.” He told CityBeat of his excitement for the new location, saying that it is “as ideal of a spot for a bookstore in Cincinnati as anywhere imaginable.”

In a prior post, DiSabatino revealed the big move was for economic reasons, as the demolition of the Fourth Street Bridge and the seven-year construction plan for the Brent Spence Bridge had made foot traffic to the store “exceptionally, especially painful.”

“We’ve loved being in Covington & growing our community here – this store would not exist without it, but especially, without y’all,” he wrote. “Our new move will be a big one & we will need your help in writing ‘the next chapter’ (terrible joke). In the meantime, stay tuned, stop by, keep it in motion & thank you all deeply.”
