German manufacturer Blum-Novotest has opened its newest “competency center” in Northern Kentucky.

The company, which specializes in precision measuring and testing technology for the manufacturing and machine tool industries, has four competency centers worldwide. A competency center is an organization’s department or team that oversees business information and data.

The new Erlanger facility, located at 1368 Cox Ave., allows Blum-Novotest customers and partners to gain hands-on experience and training with a variety of metrology and testing systems. This ranges from live machine-tool demonstrations to virtual or in-person training and workshops. Essentially, the center acts as a learning and innovation hub for Blum-Novotest products.

Blum-Novotest officials were joined by Northern Kentucky politicians, including Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore, State Senator Steve Rawlings and State Representative Kim Banta, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 26 to mark the opening of the facility.

“The BNCC delivers results with a highly qualified regional team and a fully equipped technical center with the capacity to pilot software development for relevant machine controls,” Blum-Novotest President Lilian Barraud said in a news release. “We will be able to provide needs-based process consulting and optimization. The BNCC expansion has also enabled us to optimize our supply chain process and add the ability to perform local repairs and assemblies.”

Blum-Novotest entered the Northern Kentucky market in 2023 after purchasing a 15,000-square-foot facility at 1368 Cox Avenue in Erlanger for $3.4 million. The facility, which was constructed in 2017, features 7,500 square feet of office space and a 7,500-square-foot warehouse.

The building was purchased with the intention of making it Blum-Novotest’s North American headquarters. Additionally, the building is situated in a prime location, less than a mile from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and Interstate 75.

Blum-Novotest employs more than 650 staff members across a total of nine sites in Europe, as well as in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, India, Thailand and Vietnam.
