Uber Freight, the ride-sharing company’s logistics subsidiary, opened its newest office inside The Gallery at Newport on the Levee.

On Tuesday, the City of Newport hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Uber Freight’s new office to commemorate the company’s relocation to Newport.

“Now that we have this beautiful facility we’re going to call home, we’re going to grow so the goal is to fill all of those desks as soon as humanly possible,” said Uber Freight CEO Lior Ron.

In December 2022, Uber Freight announced it would be moving from Florence to Newport after signing a lease for 20,000 square feet of space, nearly double the space of its previous building. The office can house over 100 operations, marketing and sales professionals.

Previously, the space housed Bar Louie from 2002 to 2019 — a now-shuttered gastropub that was one of Newport on the Levee’s longest leased tenants. Cincinnati-based Reztark Design Studio redesigned space for Uber Freight.

“It (the space) not having life for a couple years was a struggle — you walk by the space and you’re like, what’s it going to be next? And not only is it going to be something very cool next, it’s something that is transformational,” Newport Mayor Tom Guidugli said.

With Uber Freight’s relocation into the city, the Newport riverfront has become a popular destination for relocating logistics companies. MegaCorp Logistics’ regional headquarters is located inside the Ovation development’s new office building. Legion Logistics is located directly across the hall from Uber Freight’s new office in Newport on the Levee.

Uber Freight’s Newport office joins the company’s existing network of locations in San Francisco, Chicago, Frisco, Texas; and Rogers, Arkansas. The company manages over $18 billion of freight and has partnered with Fortune 500 companies like Del Monte Foods, Nestle, and Anheuser-Busch InBev.
