Another historic downtown Covington building has received a facelift after years of vacancy.

Dubbed the Urban Garage, 429 Greenup St. was transformed from a dilapidated mechanic’s shop into a new space for Covington-based video production company The PPS Group. The building will be used as the new home for The PPS Group’s film and video archival division.

On Monday, Covington city officials attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the business.

“We’re here to celebrate the grand reopening of a warehouse,” Covington Mayor Joe Meyer said on Monday. “But it’s not just any warehouse. It’s the magnificent addition to a gem of a company.”

Developer Al Haehnle was in charge of the restoration project. Haehnle has worked on other building restorations in Covington, including the $11.3 million Monarch Building project — now the home of DBL Law.

At the ceremony, Meyer praised Haehnle as “inventive, creative, and high-energy” and said his projects have helped contribute to Covington’s resurgence.

The PPS Group first moved to Covington in 2008 after decades in Cincinnati. The company was founded in 1981.

Some of the services The PPS Group company provides include shooting video, creating motion graphics, 3D animation and color grading for video projects. The company has created commercials for the Kentucky Lottery, Ohio Lottery and Agave & Rye.

Currently, the company’s headquarters is located just a short distance away from the Urban Garage at 424 Scott Blvd.

Previously, 429 Greenup Street housed Level 3 Auto Works, a car detailing and window tinting business. It moved to a different space at 2317 Donaldson Ave. in 2021.

The building was last sold on July 17, 2022, for $675,000, according to Kenton County property records. The Kenton County Property Valuation Administrator’s website lists 429 Greenup Street LLC as the building’s owner. Constructed in 1900, the building is one story tall and covers 4,512 square feet.
