Fleurish Grounds, a plant and vintage shop in Newport, is closing its location to return to its roots—exclusively online sales.

The business announced on its Instagram on July 11 that the store would be fully remote starting Sept. 1. The location at 846 Monroe St. in Newport opened in February of 2022 as a partnership between Fleurish Grounds, Flow Koffee and Kombucha, and Poppy’s Favorite Vintage.

“As a small business, it’s becoming increasingly difficult and financially straining to operate out of a brick-and-mortar,” the business said on its Instagram. “This is not goodbye—we will still see you at all of your favorite local indie markets and pop-ups.”

Christine Kim initiated Fleurish Grounds as an online plant shop through Instagram in 2019, where people could place orders and pick them up. When Kim moved into the Newport location, Brittany Hale of Poppy’s Favorite Vintage was brought on board as a partner to sell vintage clothing out of the plant shop. Hale is now the owner of the company.

Inventory leading up to the closing date will be 20% off during July and up to 50% off in August. The store will also sell its furniture and fixtures—including its disco ball, via Instagram stories over the next few weeks.

The shop is also hosting one last event in its space on July 18 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The “New Moon Manifestations” event is $50 per ticket and includes a 4-inch plant, ceramic pot, small crystal, wine and charcuterie, and education/guidance with astrologist Lori Kaufman.

“Thank you to the Newport and plant communities for accepting us with open arms and for your unwavering support of our little business,” the company wrote on its Instagram. “This is not goodbye.”
