The month-long grace period when Covington police were issuing warnings instead of tickets for new parking meter hours has expired.
So if you’re parking at a meter in Covington from 8 a.m. through 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, make sure you feed that meter so you don’t get a ticket.
The new hours officially went into effect March 9, but police were giving warnings since then to motorists who didn’t feed the meters during the extended hours.
“Over the last month we’ve worked to educate about the change, with courtesy tickets and fliers, plus notices to businesses in the areas of the meters,” Infrastructure Development Specialist Kyle Snyder said. “But we’ve done all we can, and now the changes are in full effect.”
The changes are partly in response to complaints from business owners about spots in business areas being monopolized by drivers who leave their cars parked throughout the weekend and evening hours, the city said in a release.
