LINK nky’s work in 2021 received special recognition last week at the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Cincinnati chapter’s annual Excellence in Journalism Awards.
Each year, SPJ Cincinnati solicits entrants from all area media outlets to compete in a variety of categories.
In early June, the organization announced up to three finalists in each category and revealed the winners last Thursday.
LINK nky contributor Patricia A. Scheyer was a finalist in the category of ‘Beat Reporting’ for her ongoing coverage of debate over sober-living houses in Lakeside Park. Scheyer has received multiple ‘finalist’ designations in recent years and has also won two SPJ Cincinnati awards in the past.
LINK nky photographer Brian Frey was a finalist this year in the category of ‘Sports Photography Portfolio.’ Frey was nominated for his photographic coverage of local high school and college sports.
Scheyer and Frey’s work from 2021 was under the banner of The River City News, which was acquired by LINK Media last fall and now operates as LINK nky.
“We are proud of Trisha’s and Brian’s work last year, and over the many years leading up to last week’s awards event,” said Michael A. Monks, LINK nky chief content officer. “Both of them have been vital contributors to our local journalism effort for nearly ten years. Their level of professionalism and ability is certainly worthy to compete against the larger media outlets in Cincinnati at these events, and it is a thrill to see them and our LINK nky content being consistently honored.”
