Tri-State residents can help clean up the Ohio River this weekend by volunteering for the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, ORSANCO’s, end-of-the-season Ohio River Sweep.
Dubbed “Rally the River,” the clean up event will see individual volunteers as well as community organizations, businesses and other partners collect litter at designated locations along the river in multiple states. The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon.
“The Ohio River connects our communities in so many special ways, and caring for it is a responsibility we all share,” said Annette Meagher, communication and outreach director for ORSANCO. “Rally the River is about bringing people together across the entire river corridor to make a visible difference. Every volunteer, every cleanup site and every piece of litter removed contributes to a river-wide movement rooted in community pride and a shared commitment to caring for the river that connects us all.”
There are 23 designated cleanup locations along the river corridor, including multiple locations in Cincinnati and Covington. Volunteers should wear clothing for outdoor activities, including sturdy, closed-toe shoes. The event will take place rain or shine, unless river conditions become unsafe.
Walk-up volunteers are welcome, but you can also register in advance and find the designated clean up locations at orsanco.org/end-of-season-cleanup-event.
