Five Northern Kentucky teams appeared on the first regular season Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association poll, released on Wednesday.
The poll will be released bi-weekly throughout the regular season and a coach must be a member of the KVCA to participate, 23 members voted in the first poll with Assumption voted the unanimous No. 1.
Notre Dame Academy came in at No. 2, the runner-up from a season ago and is off to a 4-2 start to the season. They’ve yet to drop a set against Kentucky opponents with their two losses coming to teams across the river against Archbishop McNicholas and St. Ursula.
St. Henry is ranked No. 6. Despite a loss to Beechwood in the 9th Region All “A” championship on Thursday night, the Crusaders are off to a 7-3 start to the season. They have a loss to No. 3 Mercy and Briarcrest Christian School out of Tennessee. They had an impressive showing in Knoxville, TN, going 3-2.
Beechwood is currently No. 13, but certain to make a jump after beating St. Henry. They are 7-1 on the year, the lone loss to No. 1 Assumption, also at the tournament in Knoxville in which the Tigers went 4-1.
Ryle follows at No. 14 with Conner ranked No. 21. The Raiders are off to a 3-0 start while the Cougars are 1-2.
As far as the top five in each region, in the 8th Region, Simon Kenton is fourth. North Oldham is first, Eminence is second and Oldham County is third with Woodford County fifth.
In the 9th, Notre Dame is at the top with Beechwood, St. Henry, Ryle and Conner following.
In the 10th, Bishop Brossart is first with George Rogers Clark, Montgomery County, Scott and Calvary Christian following.
