Michael “Spike” Jones, current Kenton County police chief and former Covington police chief, was voted in as Covington’s assistant city manager Tuesday night.
Jones will work under City Manager Sharmili Reddy, and will conclude his role as the Kenton County police chief on Sept. 11.
Jones has had a long career in law enforcement. He has a master’s degree in executive leadership and organization change from Northern Kentucky University. Jones formerly worked for the Covington Police Department and served as the city’s police chief from 2012 to 2015 when he retired. It was short lived; he came out of retirement the same year to become the Kenton County police chief. He is currently the chair of the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council Executive Committee.
