Kentucky Rep. Stephanie Dietz, a Republican from Edgewood, was honored as a “Friend of Kentucky Cities” Tuesday night in Covington.
The award was issued by the Kentucky League of Cities, a membership-based advocacy organization that lobbies for legislation that favors cities. Most of the cities in the region are either members of the league or employ its services.
“We are pretty picky,” said Gracie Kelly, the league’s director of government affairs. “You either have to sponsor one of our bills, be a key member of leadership, or help us with a very important issue or issues throughout the legislative session.”
Dietz had sponsored two of the league’s bills, one about first responder funding and another about occupational taxes, in the most recent legislative session, but neither of them was passed into law. Of the league’s bills, 15 passed through the legislature this year, Kelly said.
“Sometimes it’s not necessarily about getting the bill passed, but it’s maybe a message that’s sent when we filed the bill,” Dietz said.
