Renee Wilson is an incumbent member of the Erlanger City Council and one of 15 candidates running for a spot on the legislature. There are nine seats on the council.
Wilson is currently serving her third term on the council. She is the first person of color to be elected to the body. She formerly worked as a legal secretary before her retirement. She’s also served as a deaconess and a missionary.
Her husband, Larry Wilson, is running for reelection as a Kenton County Conservation District supervisor, and her daughter, Serena Owen, is running for a spot on the Erlanger-Elsmere Independent Public Schools Board of Education.
“Whether I am serving at church, volunteering in schools, working the polls, mentoring students or serving on council, my purpose is the same: to lift people up, connect them with resources and help build a community where everyone knows they matter,” Wilson said.
She said she hoped to continue listening to the needs of Erlanger residents if reelected.
“That means supporting a fiscally responsible budget, improving constituent services, roads, sidewalks, parks, and public safety, and making sure residents can access information and resources,” Wilson said.
Finally, Wilson said it was important the city government “welcomes participation from every neighborhood and background” and that she would support “responsible economic growth, strong neighborhoods, education, accessible parks and recreation, fair and inclusive city participation and appointments, transportation options, and policies that protect both public safety and privacy.”
