Tim Downing is one of seven candidates for the new Covington City Council and is a current member of the Covington Board of Commissioners.
“I’m seeking re-election because I want to continue building on that momentum and bring a practical, results-oriented approach to addressing the challenges and opportunities facing our city,” Downing said.
Downing is a manager with Hormel Foods and touted his private sector experience as useful for the role of legislator, which under the new mayor/council form of government will focus largely on budgetary creation. Within the context of government meetings, Downing is often among the more inquisitive of the legislators.
“My background in finance, analytics, budgeting and management helps me evaluate issues through both a community and fiscal responsibility lens,” Downing said. “I believe in data-driven decision-making, strong neighborhood partnerships, supporting small businesses and maintaining a city government that is accountable, responsive and focused on delivering results for residents.”
During his time in office, Downing has supported various city initiatives, including the neighborhood grant programs, the first-time homebuyer program and the city’s small business incentives.
“My first priority would be ensuring Covington continues to grow while maintaining the quality of life that residents expect,” said Downing. “That includes supporting public safety, encouraging responsible economic development, improving neighborhood investment and making sure city government operates efficiently and transparently. As the city continues to evolve with the new form of government, it will be important to balance growth with protecting the character and needs of our neighborhoods.”
