An off-duty Florence Police officer was killed in a shooting with Boone County Sheriff’s deputies Friday night, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Kentucky State Police, which is investigating the shooting, said in a release that Boone County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 8600 block of Lely Court in Florence around 9 p.m. for a domestic violence call.
At the scene, deputies encountered Dustin Zink, an off-duty Florence Police Department officer.
Zink was armed and fired his weapon multiple times during the interaction, prompting four deputies to discharge their weapons, striking Zink. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Healthcare Edgewood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing.
