Week 8 is here!
This year at LINK nky, we decided to add some fun to our football coverage. We’re going to do a weekly picks contest with the three of the sports writers (Evan Dennison, Ray Schaefer and Josh Kalb) we have here and throw in a little twist…a guest picker each week. The guest picker will most likely be someone you recognize as a member of our community, whether it be someone who is on the sidelines with us, sports TV personalities, former coaches or players or someone who may not even be entrenched in the sports scene, but still invested in our communities to some capacity.
With a couple of Thursday games on the docket due to fall break, we’re releasing the picks a day early.
Week 7 was a lot better than Week 6. We almost had a 10-0 week, but the Bengals ruined that (of course they did). Evan went 9-1, improving his season record to 51-19. On top of the leaderboard was Josh, who went 8-2 and now also sits at 51-19 on the season. Ray went 7-3 to improve to 42-28 while guest picker Dave Hartman went 7-3 to bring the guest pickers to a cumulative 47-23 on the season.
This week’s guest picker: Kevin Gray
Beechwood is on fire on the gridiron so why not bring in a member of the Beechwood contingent? This week’s guest picker is Kevin Gray, the Tigers baseball coach.
His resume speaks for itself, since taking over the Tigers program in 2018, all Beechwood has done is win, win, win. Gray has amassed a 227-71 record in eight seasons with five region titles and five district titles. They’ve won over 30 games three times and at least 22 in every season he’s been there and led them to All “A” state titles in 2018 and ’19. Gray has helped raise the standard in Fort Mitchell as they are now the standard in the region.
Gray is a Newport Central Catholic graduate. He’s currently the president of the Northern Kentucky Baseball Coaches Association and helped spearhead the inaguaral 9th Region Hall of Fame that inducted its first class during last season’s 9th Region tournament.
