Erlanger City Council recognized State Rep. Steve Doan twice Tuesday night at its monthly meeting.
He was honored first with the Kentucky League of Cities’ Friend of Kentucky Cities Award, then with a proclamation from Mayor Jessica Fette naming Oct. 7, 2026, “Steve Doan Day” in the city.
Representatives from the Kentucky League of Cities, known as KLC, presented the award, which recognizes his leadership, service and advocacy for cities during the 2026 regular session of the General Assembly.
Gracie Kelly, KLC’s director of government affairs, presented the award and thanked him for supporting the group’s agenda and policy goals throughout the recent legislative session. Mallory Baker of KLC’s government affairs and communications team joined her.
Kelly highlighted Doan’s sponsorship of House Bill 660, which would have required the Transportation Cabinet to notify cities when road work is planned within their limits. Many cities, she said, don’t know about state road projects until crews arrive with equipment.
The bill did not become law, but it passed the House unanimously, which Kelly said sent a strong message to the cabinet. It will stay on KLC’s legislative agenda next year, and the organization hopes to work with Doan to get it across the finish line.
Doan also serves on the House Local Government Committee, where, Kelly noted, nearly all KLC-backed bills go.
Following the award presentation, Fette read a proclamation praising Doan as accessible, responsive and willing to listen to city staff and residents. It noted that his experience as a former member of the Erlanger City Council gives him firsthand insight into the challenges facing local governments and the importance of good state-local cooperation.
Fette then proclaimed Oct. 7, 2026, “Representative Steve Doan Day” in Erlanger and commended the observance to all citizens. The proclamation was dated Oct. 6, 2026.
Doan’s time on the council was brief. After the death of longtime council member Kathy Cahill, he was appointed to the remainder of her term in August 2021. Rather than seek reelection to the council, he successfully challenged incumbent Rep. Adam Koenig in the 2022 Republican primary for Kentucky’s 69th House district.
Doan said he got his start on the Erlanger City Council and called it an honor to return. He said he often thinks about his former colleagues in Frankfort, working “to make sure that we’re voting to keep this city strong.”
KLC gives the “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award to legislators who “perform outstanding work in the legislature, advocating for issues that impact cities across the state.”
