Garden Club Promotes Patriotic Plantings
Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with red, white, and blue flowers this summer. The Boone County Garden Club is encouraging all businesses and residents to consider patriotic colors when selecting seasonal plantings.
“Our goal is to cover the county with red, white, and blue flowers for this very special occasion,” says club spokesperson TJ Dixon. “Whether you are planting containers by your front door or an entire garden, this is an opportunity to show your patriotism and visually celebrate in flowers.”
To help residents select the best plants, the organization has compiled a list of more than 70 plants suitable for local growing conditions in sunny, part sun, and shady locations. It is usually safe to plant outdoors after Mother’s Day.
The Boone County Garden Club has created a special Facebook page… ‘Plant It Red, White, and Blue’… and encourages residents and businesses to share pictures of their beautiful plantings.
