The Dixie Heights High School Marching Band, directed by Sarah Shamblin, is celebrating a strong season marked by two major victories on consecutive weekends.
On Sept. 27, Dixie Heights competed at Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Louisville, earning the top overall award and recognition for its percussion section. The following weekend, on Oct. 4, the band repeated its success at Simon Kenton High School, once again winning Grand Champion and Best Percussion.
Dixie competes in the Mid States Band Association, a regional marching band circuit that serves students in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
“These are truly impressive achievements that highlight the hard work and talent of these young musicians,” parent of an eighth grader marching in the drumline, Elise Sebastian, told LINK nky.
The band’s upcoming appearance at The Festival at the Heights on Oct. 18 will feature an exhibition performance of their 2025 show, “Dreamcatcher.” Approximately 15 marching bands are expected to compete at the event, which is open to the public.
