Eight finalists have been chosen to advance for consideration as the public art project that will eventually go into the Central Riverfront Development site, located on the site of the old IRS building in Covington.
There were 25 submissions to the contest, each of which was judged by a panel of art experts, community members and other community stakeholders.
The artists will publicly present their work on Sept. 30 at The Carnegie on Scott Street. The artists will explain their work, including what inspired them and how it would contribute to the new neighborhood.
“We are very pleased with the range and diversity of submissions that we received,” Matt Distel, executive director of The Carnegie, said in a city press release. “You’ll see a broad range of interpretations of the themes represented in the finalists, which include both locally and nationally known artists, and a range of experiences from people who have completed other landmark pieces to artists submitting their first piece of public art.”
Community members can view smaller models and other displays showing the works by visiting the Hellman Creative Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard this week between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., through Thursday. An after-hours showing will also take place on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
