A flood advisory is in effect until 11:30 p.m. Sunday for Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory was issued around 8:30 p.m. following severe weather throughout the region, in which 0.5 to 1 inch of rain is reported to have fallen. Low lying areas and areas with poor drainage will be especially vulnerable to flooding.

The service is reporting the following cities as affected: Covington, Florence, Independence, Erlanger, Fort Thomas, Newport, Edgewood, Alexandria, Elsmere, Fort Mitchell, Villa Hills, Highland Heights, Taylor Mill, Fort Wright, Lawrenceburg, Greendale, Ludlow, Southgate and Crescent Springs.

The national weather service has also issued a flood watch for Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties, until Monday morning.

The service recommends having multiple ways to receive weather alerts on hand during the watch.
