A Northern Kentucky-based housing nonprofit received an anonymous $25,000 donation for its ‘Renew Hope this Easter’ campaign.

Housing Opportunities of Northern Kentucky, or HONK, is a nonprofit organization that aims create affordable homeownership for low-income people in Northern Kentucky through the renovation and rehabilitation of homes. HONK, which champions a lease-to-own model, counsels households one-on-one to prepare them for homeownership.

“The matching donation really motivates donors,” HONK Marketing Manager Ainsley MacDougal said in a press release. “In previous years, HONK raised just a couple thousand dollars around Easter. Last year, thanks to a matching donation, we raised significantly more. People know their contributions will be doubled and therefore make a greater impact.”

Funds from the ‘Renew Hope this Easter’ campaign will go toward rehabilitating seven homes in Northern Kentucky throughout 2025.

Since its founding in 1991, the organization has heavily relied on community donations.
