The quarterfinals of the All “A” Classic state tournament took place on Friday at the Owensboro Sportscenter in Owensboro.

The Bishop Brossart girls advanced to Saturday’s semifinals with a 74-46 victory over Lexington Christian Academy while the Walton-Verona boys dropped their quarterfinal contest with Danville Christian Academy, 49-29.

Here’s how they went down:

Bishop Brossart 74, LCA 46

The Lady ‘Stangs spread the wealth in their quarterfinal victory on Friday morning with five players hitting double figures.

A fast start certainly helped, shooting out to a 21-4 end of first quarter lead and cruising from there. Brossart (14-4) shot 53% from the field in the contest and knocked down 11-of-14 free throw attempts. After forcing 43 turnovers in a first round victory over Louisville Holy Cross, they forced 21 more against LCA (17-5) on Friday. Greylee Kramer led the way with four steals, Zoey Woosley, Zoee Meyers and Rachel Shewmaker with three steals apiece.

Shewmaker led in the scoring department with 18 points, Hadley Eviston with 14 and five rebounds, Meyers with 13 and Kramer and Kylie Smith tossing in 11 points each.

Brossart moves on to Saturday’s semifinals where they’ll face Bethlehem at 9 a.m. CST back at the Sportscenter.

Danville Christian Academy 49, Walton-Verona 29

The Warriors defense continues to stifle teams with their length. After holding Elliott County to 23 points in the first round, Danville Christian (15-2) held Walton-Verona (12-7) to just 29 points in Friday’s quarterfinal at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

The Bearcats shot just 27% and were held to 11 made field goals in the contest. Aaron Gutman led WV with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Adam Gutman added eight, Aidan Kerns tossing in six.

DCA led 26-15 at halftime and 35-23 after three before pulling away in the fourth.
