What is Covington’s new government going to look like?

Covington is set to transition its city government from a city manager form to a mayor-council form, with a committee to be established to make recommendations on the conversion. The new form will grant the mayor more authority to hire and fire city workers, giving them greater latitude in running the city on a day-to-day basis. The transition is expected to be completed by the 2026 election, with a committee of nine yet-to-be-appointed Covington residents to provide recommendations on the transition.
