ReSource, a Cincinnati-based non-profit that redistributes corporate donations – excess goods such as office furniture, personal care items and operational supplies – to hundreds of area charities each year, provided a free room makeover to the Abuse and Rape Crisis Shelter of Warren County, the winner of its 2015 Member Makeover Contest. As part of ReSource’s annual contest, the shelter received a free renovation of its therapeutic playroom. The finished playroom was revealed to the shelter staff during a special presentation on May 2.

In the weeks leading up to the special presentation, ReSource staff and volunteers worked diligently to renovate the playroom to include new carpet, furniture, lighting, learning materials, paint and additional improvements. Jill Morenz, Park Hills resident, owner of Design for Real People and chair of ReSource’s 2015 Member Makeover contest, designed and donated services to the newly renovated playroom.

The Abuse and Rape Crisis Shelter of Warren County houses 40 to 50 women and 60 to 70 children each year. This newly updated playroom will aid in providing a safe, comfortable setting for young children living at the shelter to develop social skills, work on trust and anger issues and attend therapeutic group sessions.

“We are thrilled and grateful to be the recipient of this playroom. It will greatly benefit the children we serve at the shelter, and it will provide a positive, safe space for them to play and feel more at home during a difficult time,” said Jane Conn, interim executive director of the Abuse and Rape Crisis Shelter of Warren County.

The Abuse and Rape Crisis Shelter of Warren County was selected out of 16 ReSource member non-profit organizations that participated in the 2015 Member Makeover contest. The shelter was voted by the public as a finalist and was chosen as the winner by a panel of judges based on criteria including the project’s impact on the organization’s charitable mission as well as the community.

“We are honored to help the Abuse and Rape Crisis Shelter of Warren County live out its mission by providing this newly renovated playroom. The shelter provides valuable services at no cost to the women and children living at its facility. We hope this playroom helps the organization continue to provide supportive and therapeutic care for children and their mothers,” said Mark Luegering, president of ReSource’s board of directors.

The 2015 ReSource Member Makeover Contest was sponsored by AIC Contracting, Design for Real People, OMI Industries, School Outfitters, Smith, Beers, Yunker & Company, 25th Hour, Starboard Strategy Corporation and the Scripps Howard Foundation.
