Kenton County Planning and Development Services has released draft elements of its new comprehensive plan, which is on track to be adopted in September, for the public to review.

The county comprehensive plan is required to be updated every five years. It serves as a set of recommendations for zoning and development throughout the county. Although many cities have their own zoning regulations, the comprehensive plan serves as sort of a template for cities to follow to ensure development cohesion between the county’s many jurisdictions.

Public service agencies and organizations also use comprehensive plans when setting policies, and the plan itself touches nearly every aspect of public life from transit to housing to economics to the environment.

Early rounds of public input have taken place over the last few months, and draft versions of the plan are now available for public view. County residents can continue to make comments until July 14, and there will be a public hearing on the comprehensive plan at the meeting of the Kenton County Planning Commission on Sept. 5.
