Assistant Road Supervisor Bob Bowlds is retiring from the Campbell County Road Department after 27 years of service to the county.

Bowlds was recognized for his work at the Campbell County Fiscal Court meeting on March 20.

Campbell County Road Department Supervisor Luke Mantle said he didn’t know anything Bowlds has touched where he hasn’t made it better.

“Bob’s the kind of guy that when everyone has a problem that stumps everybody in the building because we don’t have a certain mechanical device, like a tool, and they haven’t been produced since like the 40s or something, and Bob’s like I got three at home which one do you want?” Mantle said.

Campbell County Judge/Executive Steve Pendery said the county was grateful for Bowlds service and wished him the best in retirement.

“I think the average American has about 12 jobs in their lifetime, and a record of constancy is of huge value to an employer and the people that you work with because you know your stuff like nobody else does and offer guidance and help to everybody else,” Pendery said. “Having done that for 27 years. It’s a big deal.”

Mantle said it has been an honor to work with Bowlds and a pleasure to whisk him into retirement.

“Bob, we have been through a heck of a lot,” Mantle said. “Some pretty scary times, but also a lot of times where we just laugh and laugh, and I will definitely remember those times. I will carry it with me for a long time. You’ve been extremely generous in your knowledge of the county and the knowledge of being a good person, a good human being. And you shared that with the crew and me, and I’m forever thankful for that.”

“It’s been a good time for me, too,” Bowlds said. “I’ve really enjoyed working for the county.”
