Bellevue and St. Henry kicked things off in the All “A” 9th Region Tournament at Newport Central Catholic and battled to the wire with the Tigers edging the Crusaders, 59-55.
Bellevue won out with its balance. Sydni Massey made 11-of-15 free throws on her way to 23 points to lead the Tigers with Paulina Long and Ally MacPherson scoring 10 each and Jayda Dowell scoring nine.
Kayla Unkraut led St. Henry with 24 points.
Bellevue (9-3) returns to NewCath on Wednesday to face defending All “A” champion Holy Cross at 7:45 p.m. St. Henry (7-5) plays at NewCath on Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Girls Basketball
Bishop Brossart 36, Roger Bacon (Ohio) 28
The Mustangs hit the road and won their final tune-up for the All “A” 10th Region Tournament in a defensive battle.
Brossart recorded 29 rebounds to overcome a tough shooting game. The Mustangs shot just 28% from the field, but did make enough free throws to win it hitting 11-of-17 for 65%.
The Mustangs (11-2) travels to host Nicholas County in the All “A” 10th Region Tournament opener on Friday at 6 p.m.

Noah Frommeyer scored his 1,000th career point in the Tigers victory.
Bellevue improves to 8-4 and won their third straight in the process.
They return to action on Thursday at home against Calvary Christian at 7:30 p.m.
Villa Madonna 47, Calvary Christian 38
Henry Thole posted another double-double with 25 points and 16 rebounds as he hit 11-of-17 shots from the field in the Vikings victory.
Quinn Thomas added 10 points, Aiden Day chipping in seven.
Villa Madonna (5-8) has won three in a row. They’ll look to make it four in a row when they play at Dayton on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Calvary Christian (3-10) plays at Bellevue on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Lloyd Memorial 61, Beechwood 58
Isaiah Sebastian, Anthony Blaackar and EJ Walker combined for 52 points as the Juggernauts squeezed by the Tigers.
Sebastian had 20, Blaackar with 18 and Walker 14 as Lloyd (8-4) hit 22-of-29 from the free throw line.
Lloyd returns to action on Friday at Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m.
Beechwood (6-5) plays at Covington Catholic on Friday in a 35th District matchup at 7 p.m.
