The Walton-Verona Board of Education convened in a closed executive session Thursday evening to have a preliminary discussion on the superintendent’s evaluation.
Per Kentucky law, local boards of education must conduct annual superintendent evaluations. The evaluation of Matt Baker, superintendent of Walton-Verona Independent Schools, will be formally accepted on Aug. 24.
In accordance with policy by the Kentucky School Boards Association, superintendents are evaluated on their performance in seven different categories: strategic leadership, instructional leadership, cultural leadership, human resource leadership, managerial leadership, collaborative leadership and influential leadership.
The board uses a rating system to describe the performance in each category as either exemplary, accomplished, developing or improvement required. The board also records their observations of the superintendent’s achievements and areas for growth in each category.
Baker has served as the superintendent of Walton-Verona Independent Schools since 2019, coming into the role with 21 years of experience in education and 17 in administration. In the past, he has held positions as a middle and high school teacher and principal.
