Open Box Outlet in Newport is closing after four years in business, the company announced in a Facebook post.

The furniture liquidation retailer first entered the Newport market in 2019. It’s located in the Newport Shopping Center on Monmouth Street. The store sells armchairs, beds, headboards, lawn furniture and other home items.

The company’s post cited uncertain economic conditions as one of the reasons behind their decision to close up shop in Newport.

“Unfortunately, the start of this year brought a whole new level of economic contraction. We have done our absolute best to weather it, but it is time,” the post reads.

July 31 is the last day Open Box will be open for business in Newport. Starting today, the store is holding an additional 30% off sale for all in-store items.

Besides Newport, the outlet has four other stores in Cincinnati, Fairfield, Jeffersonville and Greensburg, Indiana. Founded in 2017, Open Box’s original location was in Delhi. As their business grew, ownership moved to a bigger location in Green Township.

Open Box took to social media to thank their customers in the Newport area for their support.

“Thank you again to our customers and the Newport community for accepting us and allowing us to operate while we could,” the company said in their post. “It’s been a whole lot of fun and we are eager to see what the future holds for us.”
